Bearded Guys Seen As Best Partners For Long-Term Relationships

Your beard or lack thereof may be a significant factor in women seeing you as just a fling or someone with whom they can settle down with for the long-term. So, don’t be surprised if you notice quite a number of bearded fellows tying the knot around you. There is new research that came out revealing that ladies are a lot more likely to be in a long-term relationship with a bearded dude.

The research, conducted by experts at the University of Queensland in Australia, surveyed 8,520 ladies whereby they were asked to judge pictures of different guys, rating each and everyone of them based on how physically attractive they found them to be.

Some of the guys in the pictures were on one end of the spectrum being clean shaven while others were on the complete other end having full beards, and still others with everything in between the two extremes. The researchers discovered that those guys that had smoother skin and appeared to be more feminine were less attractive than the guys with a more masculine look, which was portrayed by their beards.

What was even more interesting was that while the ladies in study found the men that had stubbles more attractive and sexually appealing than the rest of them, it was in fact the men who donned full beards that were seen as best suited for longer-term relationships.

“Our findings suggest that beardedness may be attractive when judging long-term relationships as a signal of intrasexual formidability and the potential to provide direct benefits to females,” says Dr. Barnaby Dixson, lead researcher, who writes for the Journal of Evolutionary Biology. [1]

The question that arises then is why is it that women seem to be pulled towards guys that have beards? It definitely has to do with the fact that beards just make men look more masculine which is appealing to the ladies. However, there must be more to it than just that alone.

There are other attractive qualities that are associated with beards such as maturity, wisdom, dignity and growth. Just think of all the men you know with beards; professionals like doctors and scientists, historical leaders like Imam Khomeini and Che Guevara. What comes to your mind when you think of them? You find that they are all strong and bold personalities.

“Masculinity does play a strong role in the beard attraction because while it represents the aforementioned qualities it also represents sex appeal, bad boy, ruggedness, and strength,” says psychotherapist Tyra Gardner, PhD. “These are all qualities which equal the sense of security all women look for in a man and in a relationship.” [2]

It’s not always about perfection but rather more so about looking sharp and well groomed. A guy who has facial hair tends to be more approachable, which implies that he may have a more forthright and sincere persona. “A bearded man tends to be perceived as more sensitive, thoughtful and in touch with his feelings. This, of course, is very attractive for most women,” says Dr. Kathryn Smerling [3] , a psychotherapist based in New York City.

Growing a beard can also be seen as a form of expression for many guys out there. While women have a decent range of means to express themselves be it through how they style their hair or get their nails done, guys on the other hand do not have as many options as their female counterparts. It is no wonder so much pride and care goes in the beard growing and grooming process for guys who choose that path.

For those women who are looking for a person who they can grow together with, then they may want to consider attaching themselves to guys who don the beard as a means of self-expression since it could be a good indication of readiness to adapt.

“When men are freer to express themselves more fully,” says Dr. Smerling, “they often get closer to their partners. This allows for more intimacy in a relationship and this, combined with the notions of protection and increased sensitivity, is a gold mine for women!” [3]

So for all you guys out there who are seeking for a good and solid long-term relationship, then you might want to put your razor aside and get started on a beard journey. Remember that you need good tools like beard oil and beard balm to upkeep a nice and healthy beard.
