This is another excellent compilation from BGP and Ace Records, highlighting the more obscure funk recordings from King Records, the label where James Brown got his sweaty and funky start.

These recordings range from 1967 to 1973 and as the back cover proclaims, offer a "fast & hard" selection of "essential funk cuts". Things get off to a slamming start with "Honky Tonk Popcorn" by Bill Doggett, followed by the JB-esque "Butter Your Popcorn" by Hank Ballard, and then another steaming tune, "Your Thing Ain't No Good Without My Thing" by Marie Queenie Lyons.

Other rare items from Kings' Vaults include Roosevelt Matthews' amazing version of Tighten Up on which he is backed by Billy Ball and The Upsetters, who released their own hihglt collectable releases on Apollo.

We are telling you that you're looking at a rare collection that could possibly worth over 500 bucks if you feel like splashing out. Even to funk fans, this might be funkier than you ever know.
